like one big family

In the audio clip above, a family member discusses her first experience with Dancing Well and what it means to her husband, who suffers from PTSD.

I smile from the time I get here, and that will last all night. This dancing and the people here are a blessing.

Veterans, loved ones, and volunteers come together in a safe, low-pressure setting to enjoy socializing and fun physical activity. The dancing is based on music and dance forms anyone can enjoy. Important modifications ensure that those with PTSD, brain injury, and other physical and mental challenges can participate fully and benefit.

Developed in dialogue with a staff psychiatrist at Fort Knox, Dancing Well has been successfully piloted with soldiers there and with veterans in Louisville, Kentucky. Based on steady attendance and a tremendous response from participants, Dancing Well now holds several dance series of ten sessions each per year in Louisville.

You go through so much during the week, but then you come here and it’s great company. You get a chance to talk and laugh with other veterans — that’s important.
